Kitchen Area Rugs

A detailed look at runner rugs, indoor outdoor rugs, oval area rugs, and more.

If you’re a bit put off by the hard, cold look and feel of your kitchen flooring, you may want to consider adding some kitchen area rugs to the mix.  These floor coverings are a great way to warm up a kitchen, adding a bit of color and style to what could ordinarily be seen as a drab area.

With a few different shapes to choose from, including square, round, oval, and rectangular, you’ll have a direct say in the matter when it comes to both the size and shape, making it much easier to find something that fits the space you have in mind.

Kitchen area rugs also come in a number of different styles.  Let’s take a look at a few of the many kinds you may want to consider adding to your room.

The most popular of all kitchen area rugs is the braided kitchen area rug.  Usually made of cotton (but sometimes of other materials), braided area rugs in the kitchen are a great fit for the room due to their typically diverse mix of colors and their ability to gather dirt without showing it.

One popular type of braided rug in this genre is the rooster area rug, which is sold in different shapes, at an average price of about $60 to $150, depending on the size.  Surprisingly, the rooster is extremely popular when it comes to kitchen design and there are dozens of different brands producing these rooster rugs.  These can be bought at Walmart, Target, and many other nationwide outlets.

If braided isn’t your style, don’t worry much.  There are more modern and contemporary kitchen area rugs that can be purchased at any contemporary furniture or rug store.

Fruit kitchen rugs are also quite popular.  Seemingly this would make more sense, as they fit in with the whole food theme.  Some of the more popular makers of fruit rugs are Safavieh, Milliken, and Dalyn.  The Safavieh fruit rugs are interesting for the fact that they blend a traditional Persian rug theme with a variety of fruits.  The Dalyn fruit rugs are a bit more country-like in terms of theme, and the Milliken fruit kitchen rug has a traditional theme going on.  The best part about all of these fun kitchen area rugs is the fact that they can all be bought for $50 or less, and generally ship for free too.

One of the important things to bear in mind when making a purchase is that you might need some kind of rug pad that goes underneath any kitchen area rugs.  Kitchen floors are hard surfaces, and a rug will usually slide around without any thing to grip the floor.  Prevent slipping by buying a pad that fits the size of your rug and you’ll be fine in this regard.

Kitchen area rugs will need to be washed from time to time.  While they’re great at absorbing food and soil, it’s only sanitary to wash them once in a while.  Each rug will come with its own washing instructions depending on the fabric of the rug.  Be attentive to these and you’ll have no problems maintaining a kitchen area rug that looks great for years to come.
